Here in California, a popular Democratic led single-payer healthcare plan was killed when the health insurance industry donated a million dollars to the state's Democratic party. Plus, these bastions of "free press" continue to allow Snowden and Assange suffer for their crime of exposing any number of civil liberty crimes against the citizens.

I abstained from voting in 2016. I voted Democrat straight ticket in 2020 (purely as a statement against the anti-science, anti-rational, Republican party) - but not without feeling like I was dipping my hand into dog vomit to take a bite of partially digested table scraps.

Matbew,

Your comment which noted that a contribution, from the health care industry to the democratic party of California, led to the demise of a single payor plan, reminds me of something that happened visa vis Andrew Cuomo, the federal govt and a rotten landlord.

When Bill Clinton was president, he picked Andrew Cuomo to run HUD , Housing and Urban Development. As the president or director of HUD, Cuomo brouht suit against a landlord who had decrepit vermin-ridden buildings all over the country. That Landord gave oddles of money to the Cuomos. The suit that HUD had brought was quiety discontinued.

I thank you for complimenting me for my humour.

Of course, the prognosis I laid out in this essay is certainly not set in stone. As I said, publc oppinion is extremely mercurial. Anything can happen.

Dude, that opening paragraph is a killer. You'll never get a Times Op-Ed but it's worth the price of admission. That said, your observation "You may think that Trump is so unpopular today that his electoral viability is nil. He may be very unpopular today, but public opinion is highly malleable and mercurial" is so wildly off-base that I must place you or your audience squarely in the Bi-Coastal Lib Set. You seem to have no idea how popular he is; it's just that the libs can't or won't see it or why he is. He's the only guy out there who channels the grievances of the Forgotten, while millionaire octogenarian pols prattle on about pay-offs, trans rights and War in Ukraine Forever. This prosecution by a NYS attorney doesn't guarantee his reëlection but it certainly helps. Says me.

Thanks for complimenting me on my humor. Re your allegation that I erred in contendiing that Trump is unpopular: Of course, he is wildly popular among his base, but his supporters are most definitely in the minority. He lost to Joe Biden by about 7 million votes.

D'acc (agreed), but we'll see if that holds in '24, as the dumb war grinds on and the other war, the culture one, spews out its nonsense. And really, really, really, does the U.S. have NO ONE ELSE other than the doddering octogenarian and his showbiz pal, Mr. Angry, the real estate developer whose main talent appears to be clapping his name on the side of buildings ? Asked on behalf of the entire French nation.

That's an amusing comment, but it does have a weird measure of grandiosity as your last senence states, "Asked on behalf of the entire French nation." Dude, you are an American. How and when were you annointed the spokesman of the French nation. This reminds me of a Jerry Lewis skit in which he says that his brother has become the king of France. Do you imagine that your affinity for Big Jerry makes you an Honorary Frenchman.
