Why Liberals Should Abandon American Liberalism
How Liberal Political Leaders, by Kowtowing to Arabists and Heaping Contempt on Poor Americans, Resemble the British Tories of the 1930’s

David Gottfried
Recently, I published an essay on substack which suggested that it was time for Jewish Americans to quit liberal politics. This essay proposes that it’s time for both Jews and non-Jews to abandon liberalism because it thwarts the very things progressives profess to care about. Ironically enough, to advance true liberal or left of center principles 1 many liberal leaders must go. Their reputed love for the poor is in large measure illusory and their programs to help the poor demean, degrade and defame poor people. This decadent liberalism is a captive of identity politics and its social service agencies are riddled with anti Semitism and anti-white racism. It often mimics the British Tories of the 1930’s in its coddling of Arab radicalism and its contempt for poor people at home. Finally, it has pledged allegiance to the maximization of corporate power at the expense of most Americans.
My point of view is somewhat uncommon: I am further to the left than most conventional Democratic Party liberals on economic issues. However, on issues of race and cultural identity, I am much further to the right than most mushy, mealymouthed Democrats who quiver and quake and kowtow before the febrile and furious Arab Street.
Liberal Democrats Advance Corporate Interests while Pretending to Care about Working Class Americans
A) Liberal Democrats have often argued that businesses should be compelled to buy health insurance for their employees. This will make small firms less viable and will exacerbate monopolistic tendencies. This concept is music to the ears of large corporations. It rejects the truly progressive solution: Divorcing health insurance from the context of employment.
B) When Liberals help poor people, they often get the money by robbing programs which help other poor people. For example, most people forget how Obama Care was financed. It was financed by taking hundreds of billions of dollars out of Medicare. 2
I know many Medicare patients who had gone to private doctors for their medical care. Because of Obamacare, they now go to “clinics” where the patients are treated like a species of cattle.
One of Walter Mondale’s best lines in his 1984 debates with Reagan was his charge that Reagan had tried to take billions of dollars out of Medicare. Billions of dollars were extracted from Medicare, but the culprit was not Ronald Reagen. It was Barack Hussein Obama, who looted Medicare to pay for Obamacare.
C) Our vulgar liberalism will guarantee student loans. This gives colleges free rein to charge a mint and allows banks to get in on the fun big-time: Since all loans are guaranteed, banks will lend the funds, and the banks will make a fortune because the loans are guaranteed by the government. The only people harmed are tens of millions of students who, saddled with debt, have no time or opportunity to consider public interest work, or anything artistic, and are compliant fodder for the corporate state. Student debt was not like this in 1960. Because students can get loans and the loans are guaranteed, tuition has increased parabolically. Although college is a lot more expensive, it is not at all clear that the quality of colleges has improved.
D) This liberalism is, in the City of New York, a landlord’s best friend. It will automatically pay landlords thousands of dollars a month to house welfare clients in rat-infested hotels. NYC liberalism includes HASA, the branch of New York’s Human Resources Administration attending to indigent AIDS patients, overpaying the landlords of AIDS patients, often making two rental payments for a given month. This occurs because when HASA gives a landlord money for a tenant’s occupancy, it will not give the tenant documentation showing that the rent was paid. The landlord sues the tenant for eviction. If the Tenant has the fortitude to defend himself, he will get HASA to pay the landlord for the rental money that HASA already paid but can’t find the records for. The upshot: The landlord is paid twice. The People of New York City are giving too much money to its rapacious realtors. The welfare client has less money: For paying the landlord a second time, the City of New York will reduce its cash and/or food assistance to the welfare client.
E) This liberalism has created various regulatory agencies which, more often than not, do the bidding of the very firms they are supposed to regulate. (This is what Galbraith, in “The Affluent Society,” 1957, called the colonization of the regulatory agencies by the very firms they are supposed to regulate.) Example: Glaxo Welcome got a patent for the drug AZT, but Glaxo Welcome never synthesized the compound; it was fabricated by researchers funded by the US govt, in 1964, while searching for a cure for cancer. However, Glaxo Welcome gets to make the obscene profits. Nevertheless, every election season the Republicans tell us that business initiative is being destroyed by big government and excessive regulation, and the Democrats never explain that these regulatory agencies assist and coddle business more than they constrain business. Perhaps, the Democrats want the Republicans to win the Debate because they really want conservative principles to prevail. (After all, most Democrats in power are rich.)
F) This liberalism cons the American people by concentrating on abstract messages and ignoring the concrete reality:
i) Consider: John F Kennedy: For example, we have heard for a thousand and one times that President Kennedy was dynamic, gallant and oh so majestically liberal that we forget the concrete reality: He lowered the corporate income tax rate, accelerated depreciation allowances and expanded our involvement in Vietnam, (By contrast President Eisenhower was dead-set against enlarging our presence in Vietnam. When the French were defeated at Diem Bien Phu in 1954 and anticommunists urged the US to take France’s place, Eisenhower summoned our best generals, Ridgway and Gavin, to discuss Vietnam, and they decided in less than 90 minutes to stay out of Vietnam. Period.)
ii) Consider Mr. Bill Clinton:
There was nothing progressive about Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton simply had certain styles, mannerisms and emotional deficits that we ASSOCIATE with liberalism. He played the saxophone, did not serve in the military, was sexually dissolute, was dominated by his wife, was narcissistic, and seemed capable of delivering four-hour monologues on the wonder and the glory of single mothers at any time of day. These tendencies in his character made this latter day PROTEGE OF CALVIN COOLIDGE, appear liberal.
Democrat, “liberal,” Clinton did the following:
a) He was enthusiastic about Nafta and other agreements which weakened American workers. (And he was such a liar about Nafta during the 1992 campaign. At their debates, Bush was frank, and said he favored Nafta. Perot gave Nafta a thunderous no. Wily, slick willy said, in his best “aw shucks,” Gomer Pyle voice, that he was still “studying Nafta.” 3 After he was elected, he fought harder for Nafta than anything else.
b) To facilitate the shift toward HDTV, Clinton let major media entities use additional wavelengths for free at a loss to the Fed govt of approximately 100 billion dollars. (Dole opposed Clinton on this, believing that media corporations should pay up.) This dispute took place shortly before the 96 election and exemplifies the lack of congruity between policies and political rhetoric. The rhetoric of the campaign: liberal Clinton wants to impose important fees and regulations on business; Dole wants business to be relieved of any burdens government might impose. The actual policies: Clinton signed off on a 100 billion giveaway to business; Dole opposed this.
c) To reward New York for voting so heavily for Clinton in 1996, CLINTON, in association with that other incorrigible conservative, Pat Moynihan, implemented a program which HELPED NY DOCTORS and HURT NY PATIENTS. Apparently, NY had a glut of specialists because of the creation of too many specialists in our elite teaching hospitals. Of course, the glut in specialists was not a problem for New Yorkers as a whole as it made it easier to see a doctor. The glut was only a problem for doctors who disliked more competition. The solution to the problem: Train fewer doctors. The problem with the solution: The NY hospitals received a large amount of money for each doctor they trained. CLINTON’S MISERABLE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM: Clinton agreed to continue to disburse funds to New York’s elite teaching hospitals, and would not diminish the flow of funds at all, even though the teaching hospitals would train fewer doctors. The training of fewer doctors would reduce the amount of specialists in New York. And this was New York’s reward for voting Democratic: Fewer Doctors for patients and higher compensation for doctors.
d) Clinton eviscerated welfare.
e) He reduced fee and royalty schedules for oil and gas companies which extract fuels from federal lands, sharply curtailing the Federal govt.’s receipt of revenue.
f) He bombed Serbia, a valiant fighter against the Nazis, while he sided with Albanians who were the successor to Albanian SS troops who of course fought for Hitler.
g) He advocated that derivatives trading not be regulated. This was one of the proximate causes of the Great Recession of 2008 and 2009.
h) He destroyed Glass Steagall
iii) The Infatuation with Mr. Obama
When Mr. Obama came upon the scene, he was like a white knight in the tightest tights leaping upon a stage. The American people were utterly seduced by him. The liberal media canonized him. Before he served a single day in office, he was awarded a Nobel prize.
Although the editorial pages of the New York Times are predictable and consistently liberal in a sort of corporate, Park Avenue fashion, its news reporting is excellent, and early in the 2008 campaign season, the Times published a very long article which, had Democrats read it, would have dismembered Obama’s presidential bid and rightfully so.
The article noted that he had a penchant for producing bills that were so watered down that they were ultimately meaningless. His claim to fame, in the Illinois legislature, had been the enactment of two bills, one to promote ethics in government and another to impose safeguards for criminal defendants visa vis purported videotaped confessions. The Times concluded that Obama the Softie gave into all the Republican amendments to weaken the bills and that both bills were toothless exercises in impotence.
As President, he gave us similarly weak reform legislation. When Obama came into office the economy was capsizing and the American mood had lurched far to the left. Polls, taken at the time of his inauguration, showed that a majority of Americans were in favor of Medicare for All. Nevertheless, Obama gave us a tepid reform which simply provided that the Federal govt. would help poorer people buy insurance, and the upshot of his program was that it gave private insurers many more billions of dollars for their shameful insurance policies. Among other things, Obama was opposed to allowing Medicare to bargain with drug companies for lower costs, but that should come as no surprise to anyone: Obama got more money from drug companies than either his Republican opponent, John Mc Cain or his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton. But Obama has the people easily fooled: He said he took no money from corporate lobbyists, but that statement was true but meaningless: He did not take money from corporate lobbyists because he took money directly from corporations. And of course it was easy to fool the people because he was black, and people assumed that a black man must be progressive.
Liberal Programs are Staffed by Bureaucratic Nincompoops who are grossly negligent in discharging their duties and get their cheap thrills by being anti-white, anti-Jewish and anti-gay.
1. I knew a nurse who accidentally poured rubbing alcohol into an AIDS patient’s mouth. The patient vomited. The nurse castigated the patient and screamed that he was a “Faggot.” But she was a nurse in a New York City Hospital, and New York City Hospital “workers” are defended by a militant, powerful union that enshrines surliness, slovenliness, and hostility as admirable traits in hospital workers.
2. I know patients who need rides to take them to their medical appointments. The rides are supplied courtesy of Medicaid which contracts with derelict firms to ferry patients to medical appointments. The rides are, of course, routinely extremely late and patients consequently lose their appointments.
3. I know patients so enfeebled by disease that they have home attendants. The home attendants pass the time of day by persecuting their elderly and infirm clients:
a) They steal from the clients when the clients doze off.
b) I knew a home attendant who said to a client. “You are a nice person. That is surprising because you are Jewish and most Jews are no good.”
c) I knew a welfare applicant who advised his case worker that he had not yet gotten the Medicaid coverage he was entitled to. The case worker yelled, “You ain’t nothing but poor white trash.”
d) Home attendants amuse themselves by destroying their client’s property. I knew a client who had asked his home attendant to put his clothing in the washing machine. That case worker dyed the clothing in a haphazard fashion, destroying dark blue trousers by dying it with streaks of yellow, red and brown. The client had not asked the home attendant to dye clothing; he wanted clothing washed. Period.
Today’s liberal democrats resemble the British Tories of the 1930’s.
The British Tories (In America, Tories would be called conservatives) of the inter-war years advocated policies in sync with what was known as the “Respectable Tendency.” The British Respectable Tendency was beholden to two tenets:
1) Be Very Accommodating to Herr Hitler. After all, Herr Hitler knows how to keep his workers obedient and docile, and he can keep Russia down, and we must keep Russia down because we do not want the Bolsheviks to liberate our serf-like Proletariat.
2) Oppose any attempts at redistributing income or alleviating the plight of the poor. English greatness and primacy is inextricably linked to English homage to the antique and the ancient. Our system of class bequeathed the victories of Marlborough and Nelson, and made India kneel before our Kings and Queens. Hence, the class system must be deemed inviolate.
Today’s liberals are much like the British Tories because they are exceedingly sensitive to the criticisms of foreigners and quite deaf to poor people at home. Mayor Blumberg of New York City was in favor of building a vast and towering Arab Cultural Center only yards away from the grounds of the world trade center which held, in pulverized form, parts of the bodies of the 9/11 dead. Our universities receive billions of dollars in Arab oil money and they have modified their curriculums accordingly, teaching American youth that the West is a vile and rapacious conquering Imperialistic force, and nixing courses documenting the depredations of the Mamelukes (Egyptian “slave kings” who routinely raided Europe’s coasts, capturing Christians and Jews and bringing them to Egypt to suffer slavery), the whoring warrior Islamic invaders who conquered vast tracts of European land and threatened the whole of Europe, and air brushing history by deleting mention of the biggest colonizer of Muslims, their fellow Muslims as most of the mid-East, from the 15th Century to the end of World War One in the 20th Century, had been under the yoke of the Muslim Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
I am admittedly glossing over the different varieties of liberals and leftists in the political discourse to keep this essay down to a manageable size.
Speaking of Gomer Pyle, I wrote this poem, in the 90’s, when Clinton hurt his leg playing tennis:
“Upon Hearing that President Clinton Injured a Limb”
All the tendons in Clinton playing tennis
Like the tinsel on a trumpet for a present
Will quiver and quake
And suddenly break
He's the antithesis of cement
…
Without the fortitude of farina
All ferment utterly flaccid
He has not spine
To stout whiskey wine
We imbibe and feel rather placid
,,,
When he speaks you smell the ribs
Of Lyndon Johnson's barbeques
With the hint
Of sickly mint
And Gomer Pyle’s pot liquor stews
